What is Fun, Freedom and Fulfilment at Work
Helping people create fun, freedom and fulfilment at work...
...what does this mean for the foundation?
Instead of making assumptions based on the research done by others, we have decided to take the approach in asking people what they felt that fun, freedom and fulfilment at work meant to them. The foundation carried out an on-line survey last year (using Survey Monkey) which was completed by 110 people. We will be publishing some of the the results from the survey on this blog under the "FFF survey" tag.
The questions that we asked
We asked the following two questions to find out what people experienced as "fun" at work:
- The most fun I have at work is when I am...
- The most dissatisfaction I have at work is when I am...
We asked the following two questions to find out what people experienced as "freedom" at work:
- The freedom I most enjoy at work is...
- The freedom I would really like to have at work is...
We asked the following two questions to find out what people experiences as "fulfilment" at work:
- The greatest fulfilment at work comes from...
- The area I most lack in fulfilment at work is...
How we analysed the answers
The answers to the six questions were free text answers. We had a surprisingly high response rate of 85% of people completing the survey answering these questions that were made optional.
We looked at the answers that we got for the first of each pair and grouped them into broad themes. We then looked at the answers that we got for the second of each pair and allocated them to the broad themes that had been created. We created additional themes for anything that we couldn't allocate using the themes generated from the first question in the pair.
What we found
